How BrinX.ai uses artificial intelligence

The short version

BrinX.ai uses artificial intelligence to turn your source material into courses. Course structure, lesson text, learning objectives, quiz questions, images, narration, translations, subtitles and avatar videos can all be generated by AI models.

AI output is a draft. It can be wrong. You are the author and publisher of your course, so you must review and approve everything before it reaches learners.

What AI does on BrinX

• Reads your uploaded documents and splits them into topics and chunks.
• Writes learning objectives, lesson text, summaries, key points and assessment questions.
• Recommends and fills screen templates, and rewrites text in a different tone when you ask.
• Generates and edits illustrations and icons from text prompts.
• Produces voice narration from text, converts speech to subtitles, and translates courses into other languages.
• Creates presenter videos with synthetic avatars from a script you provide.
• Suggests curriculum structures, modules and lessons for subject plans.

Which technology we use

We do not train our own foundation models. BrinX sends the text and prompts you provide to third party model providers, currently including OpenAI and Google for text and images, ElevenLabs and OpenAI for speech, and HeyGen for avatar video. Providers change over time as we evaluate quality, cost and safety.

Every provider we use is bound by contract to process your data only to deliver the service to us. We do not allow your content to be used to train their models where the provider offers that control, and we do not use your content to train models of our own.

Limits you should know about

• Accuracy: models can invent facts, misread tables, drop nuance or state outdated information with confidence. Check every claim against your source.
• Bias: generated text and images can reflect biases present in the data the models learned from. Review for fairness and representation.
• Consistency: the same prompt can give different results each time, and images may not match the text exactly.
• Specialist content: legal, medical, financial and safety critical material needs review by a qualified expert before use.
• Voices and avatars: synthetic narration and presenters can sound and look convincing. Do not use them to imitate a real person without that person's consent.

How we label AI content

Inside the authoring tool, every control that generates content is marked with an AI notice and links back to this page. Exported courses include narration and media that were produced by AI, and we encourage you to tell your learners that the course was built with AI assistance.

Your responsibility as an author

• Review all generated text, questions, images and audio before publishing.
• Only upload material you have the right to use, and only generate content that you have the right to publish.
• Keep a human in the loop for any decision that affects a learner, such as grading or certification.
• Do not enter personal data about other people into prompts unless you have a lawful basis to process it.

What happens to your data

Your uploads, prompts and generated output are stored in your account so you can keep editing. Text needed to generate content is sent to the providers named above and is retained by them only as long as needed to process the request and meet their legal obligations. We log which AI operations ran and their credit cost so we can bill accurately and investigate problems.

Safety and wellbeing

BrinX is a course building tool and not a place to get help in a crisis. If text that you type into an AI feature suggests you may be thinking about harming yourself, we pause the request and show information about free, confidential support lines instead of sending the text to a model. We never share what you typed. If you or someone you know is struggling, please contact a local helpline or emergency services.
